An American Thing from a Freind to You!
15 Sep 2006 17:38:42 -0600 When WW III Started **** 1979
This is not very long, but very informative. You have to read the catalog ue of events in this brief piece. Then, ask yourself how anyone can take the position that all we have to do is bring our troops home from Iraq, disregard the Nuke problems with North Korea and Iran, sit back, reset the snooze alarm, go back to sleep, and no one will ever bother us again. In case you missed it, World War III began in November 1979… that alarm has been ringing for years.
US Navy Captain Ouimette is the Executive Officer at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. Here is a copy of the speech he gave last month. It is an accurate account of why we are in so much trouble today and why this action is so necessary.
AMERICA NEEDS TO WAKE UP! That’s what we think we heard on the 11th of September 2001 (when more than 3,000 Americans were killed) and maybe it was, but I think it should have been “Get Out of Bed !” In fact, I think the alarm clock has been buzzing since 1979 and we have continued to hit the snooze button and roll over for a few more minutes of peaceful sleep since then. It was a cool fall day in November 1979 in a country going through a religious and political upheaval when a group of Iranian students attacked and seize d the American Embassy in Tehran. This seizure was an outright attack on American soil; it was an attack that held the world’s most powerful country hostage and paralyzed a Presidency. The attack on this sovereign U. S. embassy set the stage for events to follow for the next 25 years.
America was still reeling from the aftermath of the Vietnam experience and had a serious threat from the Soviet Union when then-President Carter had to do something. He chose to conduct a clandestine raid in the desert. The ill-fated mission ended in ruin, but stood as a symbol of America’s inability to deal with terrorism.
America’s military had been decimated and down sized/right sized since the end of the Vietnam War. A poorly trained, poorly equipped and poorly organized military was called on to execute a complex mission that was doomed from the start.
Shortly after the Tehran experience, Americans began to be kidnapped and killed throughout the Middle East. America could do little to protect her citizens living and working abroad. The attacks against US soil continued.
In April of 1983 a large vehicle packed with high explosives was driven into the US Embassy compound in Beirut When it explodes, it kills 63 people. The alarm went off again and America hit the Snooze Button once more.
Then just six short months later in 1983 a large truck heavily laden down with over 2500 pounds of TNT smashed through the main gate of the US Marine Corps headquarters in Beirut and 241 US servicemen are killed. America mourns her dead and hit the Snooze Button once more.
Two months later in December 1983, another truck loaded with explosives is driven into the US Embassy in Kuwait, and America continue s her slumber.
The following year, in September 1984, another van was driven into the gate of the US Embassy in Beirut and America slept.
Soon the terrorism spreads to Europe. In April 1985 a bomb explodes in a restaurant frequented by US soldiers in Madrid.
Then in August 1985 a Volkswagen loaded with explosives is driven into the main gate of the US Air Force Base at Rhein-Main, 22 are killed and the snooze alarm is buzzing louder and louder as US interests are continually attacked.
Fifty-nine days later in 1985 a cruise ship, the Achille Lauro, is hijacked and we watched as an American in a wheelchair is singled out of the passenger list and executed.
The terrorists then shift their tactics to bombing civilian airliners when they bomb TWA F light 840 in April of 1986 that killed 4 and the most tragic bombing, Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in1988 , killing 259.
Clinton treated these terrorist acts as crimes; in fact we are still trying to bring these people to trial. These are acts of war.
The wake up alarm is getting louder and louder.
The terrorists decide to bring the fight to America. In January 1993, two CIA agents are shot and killed as they enter CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. The following month, February 1993, a group of terrorists are arrested after a rented van packed with explosives is driven into the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York City. Six people are killed and over 1000 are injured. Still this is a crime and not an act of war? The Snooze alarm is depressed again.
Then in November 1995 a car bomb explodes at a US military complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia killing seven service men and women.
A few months later in June of 1996, another truck bomb explodes only 35 yards from the US military compound in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It destroys the Khobar Towers, a US A ir Force barracks, killing 19 and injuring over 500. The terrorists are getting braver and smarter as they see that America does not respond decisively.
They move to coordinate their attacks in a simultaneous attack on two US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.. These attacks were planned with precision. They kill 224. America responds with cruise missile attacks and goes back to sleep.
The USS Cole was docked in the port of Aden, Yemen for refueling on 12 October 2000, when a small craft pulled along side the ship and exploded killing 17 US Navy Sailors. Attacking a US War Ship is an act of war, but we sent the FBI to investigate the crime and went back to sleep.
And of course you know the events of 11 September 2001. Most Americans think this was the first attack against US soil or in America. How wrong they are. America has been under a constant attack since 1979 and we chose to hit the snooze alarm and roll over and go back to sleep.
In the news lately we hav e seen lots of finger pointing from every high officials in government over what they knew and what they didn’t know. But if you’ve read the papers and paid a little attention I think you can see exactly what they knew. You don’t have to be in the FBI or CIA or on the National Security Council to see the pattern that has been developing since 1979.
I think we have been in a war for the past 25 years and it will continue until we as a people decide enough is enough. America needs to “Get out of Bed” and act decisively now. America has been changed forever.. We have to be ready to pay the price and make the sacrifice to ensure our way of life continues. We cannot afford to keep hitting the snooze button again and again and roll over and go back to sleep.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Admiral Yamamoto said “… it seems all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant.” This is the message we need to disseminate to terrorists around the world. This is not a political thing to be hashed over in an election year – this is an AMERICAN thing. This is about our Freedom and the Freedom of our children in years to come.

It actually took me 4 minutes to read the whole thing.
Do we get a prize at the end?
Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn.
I am dying I don’t have the time to waste
That is supposed to be a question and answer forum, please
save the political speeches for another website.
NO, I have read the first line and it is full of s.h.i.t
There has been war for thousands of years……either it is over, water, oil or land.
USA needs to take care of its own people and stop sending money to Mars.
So what, in all his wisdom, does he suggest we do? Bomb the living daylights out of them? Kill them before they kill us? Fight fire with fire? Perhaps if we actually treated others with respect and didn’t economically rape the rest of the planet we wouldn’t have so many people hating America. Like Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”
God no.
Personally P.C. has killed this country !!!! I hate the liberals more than I do the damn Democrats or even the Republicans. Political partisanship is also destroying this country. All we need is one leader to stand up for us that has huge balls. The sad thing is, is that the last guy who did that spent his second term battling Alzheimer’s Disease. I really do not care what political party is setting up to take over the White House. I would actually love to see someone in there that actually gives two sh**s about this country and the people who live in it. Until we get that and more or less something or someone that can repair our moral, this country will continue to go down the tubes!!!
Whatever – 911 was caused by Bush. All this sabre rattling is useless. Even if it was actually terrorists rather than the Osam bin Laden boogeyman, all we need to do to get them off our back is quit meddling in the affairs of other countries, and quit supporting rogue nations like Israel.
So, why are we in Iraq instead of Afgansitan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, South Korea?
what’s a freind?
Terrorism is not an American Thing – this effects all nations not just the USA – and yes we all need to awake to this growing problem that is happening all over the world!@
I know
Many good points here indeed, but people are failing to see who the real terrorists are. This world is run by a desperately wicked bunch of crooks loosely known as the “Illuminati”. It is their ultimate goal to reduce world population by no less than 2/3 in an all out nuclear world war 3, then establish a New World Order fascist police state dictatorship, in which they will be able to control all survivors by implanting them with a micro-chip.
You mention many bad things that happened to us but you never stop to ask yourself why? Perhaps there is something about our international policy that is making these people attack us.
You are 100% correct. It is not about politics, it is an American thing, and we as a whole nation, do need to wake up. Thank you. Well worth reading. My husband even loved it, and he is saying the exact same thing. If only more citizens will open their eyes, we can end this war, protect our country, and bring our soldiers home. This war in the middle east is needed very badly. I have also know about the 1993 bombing of the Marine Corps head quarters all my life. My father educated me on it. He joined the marines shortly before and it hit them all very hard. Thank you.
the simple fact is… the attacks in the past 15 years have all been al-queda…
yet we’re in Iraq that has very few links to al-queda…
I think it’s time we stoped worring about all terrorists and started focusing on al-queda… the ones that attacked us…
The Truth is hard to handle for a lot of people.
I think we should have been out of Iraq a year ago and reinforcing our troops in Afghanistan.
I support our troops and the reasons we deployed. But I think we are spending too much time in Iraq and not enough time trying to gradually leave. With a Brigade sitting in Kuwait we could most likely quell a lot of the overwhelming insurgance with quick reactions.
The war on terror will never end though. We will always be in Afghanistan. I just hope they understand that we also need to secure the 48 Continental States as well…Time will tell.
I appreciate this speech and enjoyed reading it.
Unfortunately, I lack faith that these attacks will ever be seen for anything more than their political benefit. It will take more for us to come together as a nation, put aside our differences, and work for a common benefit.
You’re absolutely right. What happened on September 11th 2001 has really upset the midle eastern community. Why, well because that giant is rolling over and getting out of bed now, and they don’t like it. It’s like that kids on the playground that always picked and picked. Then, when he finally got his arse kicked, he went screaming to the teacher about the big bully that beat him up. I know we are taking a lot of crap internationally, and we always will. But, we cannot allow this crap to go unchecked any longer.
Seems the whole nation was ready to stomp out terrorism after 911. Now, it’s not fashionable any more. The flags are getting harder and harder to see when out driving, and the attitudes are terrible. I think people may have misunderstood this President when he said he would not stop until terrorism was stamped out. I think people forget that he said he was going after anyone, or any country that commits terrorist acts against any americans, or countries that harbor terrorists.
People sure seem to have short memories when the heat gets a little intense. Not me. I remember. And, thanks for posting that information for those who don’t remember the plane that was hijacked, and the American citizens held hostage. And, for reminding people about some of the other terrorist acts committed against us with no provocation.
Can’t wait until they launch Yahoo Novels ?
The truth is that this speech was given in 2002 and again in 2003. This speech appears to be a replica of one given at the Civitan Club in Pensacola in 2003. Captain Oimette has retired from the Navy and has not given anyone permission to reprint his speech.
